But the cost of L/C is high?I think L/C is safer for the seller,at least, the book said that is right.

which payment term do you usually use?

We usualy use Letter of Credit.Mostly is L/C at sight. We normally prefer irrevocable LC.LC cofirmation is mostly done on opening banks status.

100% T/T in advance if the total amount is not too big. While L/C at sight is accpeted some time.

Our industry is something about printing and colors. In general practice, our payment term is that 50% down payment when confirm the orders. Then, we will send a small quantity of the final products to the customer to push them arrange the payment for the balance of the goods. As we print the brochures with the customers' design and their logo, so there is no use to hold their materails , moreover, it is impossible to resale the goods to other customers. They don't worry while they got this point. In this case, it is easier to ask the customer to pay by T/T. There is 50% risk for both of us! hahaha!:lol;c8\2P!lC+BH
On the other hand, we accept irrevocable L/C at sight as well. Frankly speaking, both customers and I think it is troublesome and it will increase the costs definitely.
