:) I think you've misunderstood her meaning.
To find a foreinger friend to be a learning partner is a good way to make some progress for both. She can learn more about English and the other can understand more about Chinese.
By the way, I also don't agree with your words to some extent. We can't see sth only on one side, right? :)
